Embraer announced on January 24th, 2013 that Republic Airways has agreed to purchase 47 Embraer 175 aircraft. The agreement also includes options for an additional 47 aircraft. If all options are fulfilled, the airline would purchase a total of 94 Embraer 175s.
The aircraft will be operated by Republic Airlines, a Republic subsidiary, under American Eagle colours. The agreement is subject to court approval which is expected to occur in the first quarter of 2013. The aircraft will be operated in a dual-class layout with a maximum capacity of 76 passengers. First delivery is scheduled for mid-2013.
More than 150 Embraer 175s are in service with 12 carriers. Republic Airways was the first United States carrier to fly the Embraer E-Jet type. It acquired Embraer 170s in 2004 and operates those aircraft currently on behalf of United Express. With this new order, the Republic Airways Embraer fleet will be 72 Embraer 170s and 107 Embraer 175s for a total of 179 aircraft, 226 if all options are exercised. Republic Airways also operates the ERJ-145 regional jet with 70 aircraft in its fleet.
