2012 Q400 Program Review

Q400_Dash_8Bombardier Aerospace released a review of the Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft program for 2012 on January 25th, 2013. The report highlighted $2.7 billion US in orders including 50 firm and 31 optioned aircraft, and seven new customers, operators and leasing companies.

In 2012 WestJet and Eurolot became new operators of the Q400, the Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft became the largest Western-built turboprop aircraft to be awarded type approval for operation in Russia and the CIS as well. Mongolia granted type acceptance in May 2012. EZnis Airways began operating its first Q400 aircraft shortly thereafter.

In September 2012, Ethiopian Airlines became the first airline to take delivery of Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft with a dual-class configuration installed on the Q400’s production line. The five airliners that were ordered have been delivered and have entered service with Ethiopian Airlines and its affiliate, ASKY Airlines of Togo.

Bombardier has booked firm orders for 463 Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft and Q400s are in service with more than 40 operators in over 30 countries on five continents. Q400s have transported more than 243 million passengers and have logged more than 3.8 million flight hours and over 4.1 million take-offs and landings over the life of the program.

Republic to operate 47 Embraer 175s for American Airlines

American Eagle Embraer 175Embraer announced on January 24th, 2013 that Republic Airways has agreed to purchase 47 Embraer 175 aircraft. The agreement also includes options for an additional 47 aircraft. If all options are fulfilled, the airline would purchase a total of 94 Embraer 175s.

The aircraft will be operated by Republic Airlines, a Republic subsidiary, under American Eagle colours. The agreement is subject to court approval which is expected to occur in the first quarter of 2013. The aircraft will be operated in a dual-class layout with a maximum capacity of 76 passengers. First delivery is scheduled for mid-2013.

More than 150 Embraer 175s are in service with 12 carriers. Republic Airways was the first United States carrier to fly the Embraer E-Jet type. It acquired Embraer 170s in 2004 and operates those aircraft currently on behalf of United Express. With this new order, the Republic Airways Embraer fleet will be 72 Embraer 170s and 107 Embraer 175s for a total of 179 aircraft, 226 if all options are exercised. Republic Airways also operates the ERJ-145 regional jet with 70 aircraft in its fleet.

Qantas orders three DHC-8Q-400s

Qantas-logoBombardier announced on January 17th, 2013 that Qantas placed a firm order for three Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft.

Qantas, Australia’s largest domestic and international carrier, will use the aircraft on its domestic routes. This order will increase to 31 the number of Q400 and Q4000 NextGen craft operated by the airline.

Bombardier has firm orders for a total of 463 Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft including this order.

Bombardier Announces 2012 figures

Bombardier_logoBombardier Aerospace announced on January 9th, 2013 that it had delivered 233 aircraft during the 2012 calendar year, compared to 245 aircraft deliveries in 2011. Bombardier also received orders for 481 aircraft, net of cancellations, compared to 249 orders, net of cancellations, for the previous fiscal year.

Bombardier”s order book was  supported by a number of volume orders for commercial aircraft, including Delta Air Lines,  Garuda Indonesia, VistaJet and WestJet. The results for Bombardier were in line with the 235 aircraft delivery guidance for business and commercial aircraft that was provided in March 2012.

In 2012, Bombardier delivered 50 commercial aircraft, compared to 78 for 2011. During 2012, the company received 138 net orders for commercial aircraft, compared to 54 for 2011.
