Aircraft History

7008 was the eighth Canadair Regional Jet built and was the first Special Edition RJ100 built. The aircraft was constructed to the RJ100ER configuration and then passed outside of Canadair for further interior work. This work configured the interior as a corporate transport and also added extra fuel capabilities which gave the aircraft close to intercontinental range. 7008 was purposely built for the Xerox Corporation who took delivery of the aircraft on January 27th, 1993 and operated 7008 until it was sold in 2002 with the registration N5100X.

Boston Enterprises took possession of the aircraft and remodeled the interior to their own specifications and gave 7008 a new registration of N501LS which lasted only a short period of time before it was changed to its current registration of N601LS. 7008 for a short time in 2004 was repainted into a Victoria Secrets color scheme as part of a promotion for that store which is owned by Boston Enterprises.   After those events were concluded, 7008 was returned to a non-descript color scheme in which it operates in at the time of this article.

Embraer reports financials for third quarter of 2012

Embraer LogoOn October 23rd, 2012, Embraer announced that for the third quarter of 2012 it made a profit of $65.4 million.

This is in comparison to the third quarter of 2011 where the company suffered a marginal loss. Net revenue in the third quarter rose 25.7% from a year earlier.

Embraer delivered 46 aircraft during the third-quarter, including 28 commercial aircraft and 18 executive aircraft.

The company indicated that at the end of the third quarter, it had a firm order backlog of 178 aircraft, which consisted of 10 Embraer 170s, 31 Embraer 175s, 102 Embraer 190s, and 35 Embraer 195s.

Embraer ended the third quarter with an order backlog valued at $12.4 billion, down from $16 billion in the third quarter of 2011, and slightly below the $12.9 billion reported in the second-quarter of 2012.

US Army issues tender to purchase used ERJ-145 for testing

The U.S. Army issued a requirement for an Embraer 145 regional jet to be used for destructive testing purposes at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland on October 17th, 2012.

The requirement notes that the aircraft, which should be almost entirely intact, would be delivered over land to the test site and then would be subject to various unspecified tests which would, based on the requirement, result in the airframe’s destruction.

In 2006 the Army placed a requirement to purchase used Airbus and Boeing 737 passenger cabin aircraft sections for similar testing purposes.

While it is not known which aircraft have been offered to fill the requirement, many mothballed high-time ERJ-145s are stored in various locations around the United States and there are two companies that have responded to the requirement.

The contract is slated to close on October 24, 2012.
