  • Originally a RJ100ER, converted to RJ100LR configuration, then to RJ200LR configuration.

Aircraft History

C-FMKV, 7007, was the seventh Canadair Regional Jet built and began its service life with Lufthansa Cityline. 7007 was delivered as D-ACLH and was configured as a RJ100ER aircraft, then was converted to the RJ100LR configuration soon after. Like other members of the CityLine CRJ fleet, 7007 underwent an update to the RJ200LR configuration as well.

The aircraft flew in various Lufthansa titles as did all of the CityLine CRJ fleet during their service. 7007 was withdrawn from service in 2006 and returned to Bombardier. The aircraft was stored for a time with Bombardier before being leased on to Cimber Air in that airline’s colour scheme in May of 2006. The aircraft was stored after Cimber Air’s bankruptcy proceedings in 2012.

Mitsubishi’s MRJ sales program presses on

With the recent sale of MRJs to Skywest, Mitsubishi continues to press forwards on locating other customers for its MRJ program. An interior cabin mockup of the MRJ was put on display for the first time at the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2012, which opened Tuesday, October 9th in Nagoya, Japan.

The MRJ is designed as an aircraft seating 70 to 90 passengers, and  many of Japan’s aerospace companies are involved in building components for the program.

MRJ Interior Mockup

The cabin mock-up on display holds a cross section of the typical seating arrangement planned for the aircraft including passenger seats, overhead bins, and passenger windows. One unique feature of the aircraft shown are the passenger seats which are thinner than conventional seats. Instead of urethane foam, a fabric is used to support the passenger’s weight.

Another selling point of the program is that the aircraft should provide good fuel savings compared with current generation regional jets due to the materials used in its construction. Combined with a highly fuel-efficient engine, the fuel consumption is promised to be at least 20 percent better than other competing aircraft.

However, the program faces stiff competition from Bombardier with 64 percent of market share and Embraer with 35 percent. Still, the program has received orders for 230 aircraft, but needs to sell 400 before it can claim a profit on the program.

Mitsubishi has already postponed its first delivery of the MRJ twice but expects to move forward with it’s planned future goal of a first flight by the end of 2013 and the first delivery scheduled for 2015.

Kenya Airways takes delivery of 900th Embraer EJet built

Kenya Airways LogoOn October 10th, 2012, Embraer delivered the 900th E-Jet built, an Embraer 190, to Kenya Airways.

Kenya Airways’ Embraer 190s are configured in a dual-class layout with 96 seats, 12 in business class and 84 in economy. The airline currently operates five Embraer 170s and seven Embraer 190s. The airline has seven more Embraer 190 aircraft on order with one delivery each month until February 2013. The aircraft are operated from Kenya Airways’ Nairobi hub.

E-Jets are in service with more than 60 airlines in 40 countries.

Embraer reports Third Quarter deliveries and backlog reduced

EmbraerThird quarter results for 2012 from Embraer were released and showed that the manufacturer’s backlog of aircraft is shrinking as are the number of aircraft delivered.

Embraer’s report stated that deliveries of commercial and executive aircraft fell in the third quarter of 2012 from a year earlier. 27 commercial aircraft and 13 executive aircraft were delivered from July to September of 2012, compared with 28 commercial aircraft and 18 executive aircraft in the third quarter of 2011.

Embraer’s backlog of firm orders fell to $12.4 billion at the end of September 2012, from $12.9 billion in June of this year and $16 billion in 2011.

While concerning, the report is not unusual when compared to Embraer’s rival Bombardier or other aircraft manufacturers.
