Air India Express CRJ700 VT-RJE
The aircraft appeared to suffer a blown tire on landing according to initial news reports, and was unable to come to a complete stop on the runway. The aircraft finally stopped just past the end of the active runway sinking into the wet ground there.
No injuries to the 54 persons on board occurred.
The aircraft, MSN 10029, VT-RJE entered the Air India Express fleet this year after being purchased from Horizon Air, the previous operator of this aircraft as N290RB who obtained the aircraft from Atlantic Southeast Airways.
Previous to those operators, the aircraft was operated by Duo Airways as G-DUOB and G-MRSJ in British Airways colours.
Damage to the aircraft was superficial and it was removed from where it came to rest within a short period of time. Repairs were expected to be completed shortly with the aircraft returning to service after a full inspection.
The accident is under investigation by the DGCA who in an initial commentary to the press added the information that preliminary investigations showed that the pilot had miscalculated the landing point on the runway and landed long. They also added that the anti-skid system was fully functional at the time of landing.
Their investigation continues.
